Psst...Wanna look at my kitchen? Look quickly as I've managed to snap a picture of the island free of it's usual accompaniments of unopened mail, stuffed animals, broken crayons, bits of Play-Doh and tools that seem to have no home. The island is the landing pad in our home, as in many others, I suspect. Having said that, I love my kitchen. I have a great space for rolling dough and kneading bread and room for my collection of gadgets and cookbooks to grow. The stools in the picture came out of a ancient soda fountain, and Mike created the foot rail out of industrial piping.
It didn't always look like this. 5 years ago we scraped our house off and rebuilt it. We have been working on it ever since. Prior to the remodel, my kitchen consisted of a stove purchased at a yard sale (yuck!) and about 3 square feet of counter space (not nearly enough to support my growing baking habit). When we began to plan the remodel, I was adamant that I needed to have a great kitchen. I had suffered through the old one for years and deserved a nice place to cook. And after all, I needed a place to keep all of the unopened mail, random stuffed animals, bits of Play-Doh and homeless tools. Thank goodness I got just what I wished for!

Thanks! It's a great idea to have stools like that so that people can keep you company!

I love those barstools. In fact I love all the detail work in your kitchen from the industrial pipe footrest to overall unique design of the bar/island.

I love the island. That looks like old fashion tin ceiling, is it?

Love That! It reminds me of the stools at the old whistlestop cafe. I could just hang out right there.
